LawRight's Commitment to Child Safety

At LawRight, we are committed to supporting the safety of all children, with a zero -tolerance approach to abuse. This includes a culture where preventing and reporting abuse is encouraged and supported.

LawRight is committed to identifying risks early and removing and reducing those risks. We ensure all concerns are taken seriously, reported promptly, and addressed effectively.

LawRight is committed to creating inclusive, culturally safe environments that prioritise the wellbeing of children, with particular care for First Nations children, children with disabilities and children from diverse backgrounds.

LawRight has policies and procedures in place that support our management committee, staff and volunteers to achieve these commitments.


Refund Terms & Conditions

Donations 

Due to the nature of charity donations, refunds are given at the discretion of our management. Therefore please make sure that the amount you enter is the amount you wish to give. 

In the event of an incorrect amount being entered, or if the donation is made accidently or there is an extremely unusual circumstance, please contact us. We will review the request and respond within a reasonable period. 

If a donation is refunded, the associated tax receipt is no longer truthful so it should be shredded. 

 

Tickets & Events  

We are unable to provide refunds of registration fees for ticketed events, except in exceptional circumstances as determined by Management.  

 

Membership Fees  

In the event that a membership application is not approved, we will refund any membership fees received directly to the applicant.  

 

Recurring payments  

If you believe there has been an error in debiting your account, you should notify us directly. Alternatively, you can contact your financial institution for assistance. 

If we conclude as a result of our investigations that your account has been incorrectly debited we will respond to your query by contacting our financial institution within a reasonable period to request that they credit your account with any amount incorrectly debited that is received by our fianancial institution. We will also notify you in writing of the amount by which your account has been adjusted. 

 If we conclude as a result of our investigations that your account has not been incorrectly debited we will respond to your query by providing you with reasons and any evidence for this finding in writing.

The type of personal information we collect will depend on how you interact with us. You may provide us with information in a number of ways, such as through our Community & Health Justice Partnerships, our Courts & Tribunal Services, our Pro Bono Connect or our website.

We prefer to collect your personal information directly from you through an Application Form, phone conversations or other correspondence. However, sometimes we will get your personal information in other ways, such as from publicly available sources or from a support worker or someone else you have authorised to talk about your matter.

You have the option to interact with us anonymously or using a name other than your own (a “pseudonym”). However, we may not be able to provide you with all our services, such as providing legal assistance, if we do not have enough information.

Using and disclosing your personal information

We use and disclose your personal information as part of performing our services and activities, such as to firms or barristers acting on matters or organisations such as Legal Aid Queensland so that we can find the best organisation to help you. We may also disclose your personal information if you have expressly or impliedly consented to that use or disclosure, or if it is required under Australian law.

Where necessary, we use and disclose your information in confidence. We also de-identify the personal information of our applicants and clients where possible. For example, your information is de-identified in our requests to firms and barristers for assistance, as well as in any external publications or reports by LawRight.

Storing and securing your personal information

Your personal information is treated as highly confidential and is stored electronically or in hard copy files. We use third party service providers to store and process some personal information.

We are required by law to keep your personal information for 7 years after you cease your relationship with us. After this time, we securely destroy or de-identify your personal information.

We take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is protected from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Your right to access your personal information

You have a right to request access to your personal information. You are also able to have your personal information corrected, and to unsubscribe from our mailing list or from any of our services. All requests should be directed to [email protected].
