Criminal and Street Offences

Criminal law deals with the punishment of offenders for offences against the State or a law of the Commonwealth. Most criminal offences such as assault, murder and drug related offences come under the Criminal Code Act 1899 (Qld). Street offences are found in the Summary Offences Act 2005 (Qld) and are usually less serious than criminal offences although some street offenses do overlap with criminal offences. Trespass, public nuisance and public intoxication are all examples of street offences.
