Information Privacy relates to how the government collects and stores information about you. QCAT can deal with some privacy complaints that have been referred to them by the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC). These complaints must first go through the relevant agency, and in some cases, can be escalated to a mediation process with the OIC.
LawRight provides assistance with some information privacy matters at QCAT through our Court and Tribunal services.

Other places that may be able to help
QCAT is not the correct place to bring your initial privacy complaint. For privacy complaints, you must make your complaint with the agency initially. If you are not satisfied with their response, you must make your complaint to the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) after this. If the complaint cannot be resolved through mediation, you can ask the OIC to refer your complaint to QCAT for further consideration.
